"STANLEY BROOKS
Stanley William BROOKS, whose life ended unexpectedly on Monday, December 26th, at his residence, 476 Manly St. Midland, was a member of one of the well-known families of Bracebridge, who had maintained his interest in his home town and frequently visited here.
Mr. Brooks had been less well than usual in the past year, yet he had taken part as one of the leaders in the opening of a new Baptist Church in Midland in October; he had participated in the Christmas serices at the church and then he had enjoyed Christmas services at the church and then he had enjoyed Christmas Day with all members of his family at home. It was in the night hours of the next day, Monday, that his sleep was disturbed; the doctor was called but he had soon passed away.
Stanley BROOKS was born in Bracebridge January 21 1907 a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Wesley BROOKS. He attended the Bracebridge schools and as a young man began to learn the printing trade at the office of The Bracebridge Gazette when the late John Haight was foreman there, and the late G.H.O. Thomas was publisher. After a few years he took employment with a printing firm in Windsor, where he became expert in the art of lithography, continuing in this work for several years until he and his family moved to Midland. At that time he purchased a mercantile property in Midland, with bowling alley and a number of stores and apartments. Later his son took over the operation of this business and Mr. BROOKS for a time was again engaged in printing with friends in the trade.
He married Miss Ona Doonan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everard Doonan, of Dill St. Bracebridge, and they had made their home at Windsor soon after their marriage. He leaves his wife and their family, all of Midland, Mrs. David Hudson, (Eleanor), Bill BROOKS and Mrs. John Henderson (Patricia).
He was the brother of THOMAS BROOKS, Mrs. Genevieve McFadden, Mrs. Audrey Olimer, Mrs. Hazel Bennett and Mrs. Velma White all of Bracebridge; also a half-brother Ian BROOKS Bracebridge and step-brother of Mrs. Charles Gibson (Margaret) of Willowdale, and Mrs. Don McCann (Olive) of Scarborough. Another brother John A. BROOKS of Bracebridge, had predeceased him.
Brothers and sisters from Bracebridge joined the immediate family and other relatives on Thursday Dec 29 for the funeral service at Calvary Baptist Church, King St. Midland. The service was conducted by Rev. Robert Campbell Spring Interment will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery at Midland."
