Individual Note: 1. Obituary: Born in: Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada
Born on: 16/02/1917
Passed away in: Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada
Passed away on: 16/01/2011
James (Jim) Gordon Weston passed away peacefully at the Cypress Hills Regional Hospital on Jan 16, 2011, exactly one month before his 94th birthday. He was born in Swift Current on Feb 16,1917. He was predeceased by his father, George, in 1939; his mother, Margaret, in 1977; his sister, Beth, in 2005, and his brother-in-law, Roy, in 1997. "Uncle Jim" is survived by and remembered with love by his nephew, Denny (Lesley), their children, Natalie, Jamie, Meghan, Patrick; by his niece Shelley (Ian), their children, Kaitlyn (Dai), Jillian, Dacre and Brendan; and by a multitude of McCrie relatives throughout the Kyle district. Friends were important to Jim. He dearly cherished his neighbour and friend, Val Cadrain, who was his guardian angel. Jim's lifelong love of horses and his way of handling them was kindled at an early age. "Wee Jim" at seven was given the reins to the horse and buggy, and instructed to drive to the North Landing School. He must have got there ok. He always had a gentle but firm hold on the reins and he approached life much the same way. When Jim was 22, his father suddenly died and he accepted the responsibility of the Weston homestead. He was a devoted son, making his mother's wellbeing a priority. Jim was a respectful and caring farmer. Rather than owning the land, he felt he was a temporary steward, and to his credit, the Weston homestead is lOO years old and remains in the family today. Uncle Jim ("U. J.") was a loved and integral part of his sister Beth's family. He was always included in the family celebrations and never missed a Christmas with them. Upon retirement, Jim bought a house in Swift Current. This was a wonderful time in his life, as he enjoyed many square dances and social outings with his friend, Betty Johnson. He continued to take pride in his farmyard and never tired of driving through the river hills to the farm. Jim's family would like to especially thank Dr. Gordon, Tara and Elaine of the South West Medi-Centre for their exceptional and steadfast care these past years. The funeral took place at Kyle United Church on Jan 20, 2011 at 2pm, with Brian Watson officiating. Donations may be directed to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Kyle United Church Memorial Fund. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
