Obituary: published on Thursday, November 18, 1937 on page 1, column 1 in the Cavalier County Republican: Allan Pinkerton prominent in early North Dakota history, pioneer public official in two counties and early day farmer, died at a Grand Forks Hospital, Friday morning November 12, 1937 where he had been a patient for several days. Funeral Services for the pioneer were held at Langdon Sunday afternoon. Rev. Adam Hunter was in charge of the services which were held at the Presbyterian church. The church choir sang special numbers and Suot. I.E. Ottem gave a solo. Mrs J.H. Bain accompanied both. Old time friends of the deceased who carried the remains to the grave beside that of the wife of the deceased in Lebanon cemetery were Hugh McDowall, Archie Sillers, George M. Price, J.F. Schneider, J.H. Byfield and William Stranger. Intimate pioneer friends who were present as honorary pallbearers were J. K. Hamilton, Robert Murie, D.C. McDonald and M. Liebeler of Langdon, Tony Kieffer of Hannah, Elias Porter of Calvin and S. O. Tollefson of Milton.
     Allan Pinkerton was born in Ontario July 8, 1860 and lived there until 1872 when his family moved to Vassar, Mich. In 1880 they moved to Cooperstown, in this state. He was married May 22, 1886 to Hannah M. Thomson, daughter of a Quebec couple who had also Pioneered near Cooperstown. The young couple came to Langdon in the fall of 1887, when Mr. Pinkerton was a member of an elevator construction crew. They stayed in Langdon when he went to work on the crew building the Columbia Hotel.
     In Griggs county he attained prominenca as sheriff, serving several years during the time of the famous "steal" of Steele county record books from Caledonia, an event which eventually led to the organization (undeciferable) county out of portions of Griggs and Traill counties.
     In Langdon he quit the construction work shortly after settling there to accept the appointment as chief of police for the city. The following year he was appointed deputy sheriff and after that was elected to several terms as sheriff and others as registrar of deeds.
     The Pinkerton home was one of the earliest in Langdon and always a haven for those who needed help and comfort. Mrs. Pinkerton is still remembered as a devout christian by those who knew her in the early days. The family was affiliated with the Baptist church until 1909 when that church burned and the congregation was dispersed. After that date the family affiliated with the Presbyterian church. Mrs. pinkerton died at the family home near Petersburg February 22, 1935.
     The Pinkertons moved to a farm near Dresden in 1923 and in 1927 to another farm near Wales. In the fall of 1933 they moved to Grand Forks and a year later to the farm near Petersburg, were Mrs. Pinkerton passed away and which Mr. Pinkerton operated until he became ill this fall.
     The only survivor in the immediate family is and adopted daughter Mrs. Vernie Waldron of Minneapolis. She was present for the funeral as were Tina Regner Horner and son Wayne of Fergus Falls, Minn.; Mrs Maud Johns of Pierre, S. Dak; Mrs. Anna Pinkerton of Minniapolis and Mr. And Mrs. James Pinkerton of Wales. Mrs Horner is a niece, Mrs. johns a niece, mrs Anna Pinkerton a sister-in-law and James Pinkerton a nephew. Pioneer residents from all parts of the county filled the church for the services.

PINKERTON RITES ARE HELD HERE MONDAY: Former Pominent Pioneer Woman Dies Friday at her Home near Petersburg. Many people who knew Mrs Allan Pinkerton as one of Langdon's outstanding pioneer home-makers and others who learned to respect her through later aquaintances gathered at the Presbyterian church in Langdon Monday afternoon for the funeral which marked their final tribute to her. She passed away at her home near Petersburg Friday February 22, 1935 after a long illness. She had been in failing health for several years and her final illness began in Septembr of last year.
     Rev. S. L. Hammond, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Langdon, was in charge of the services which started at 1:30 o'clock. The church choir, accompanied by Mrs. J.H. Bain, sang several hymns. Langdon men who respected Mrs. Pinkerton when they were young men and several of whom were in her Sunday school class carried the remains to the grave in Lebanon cemetery. They were Walter Ramage, R. D. Kelly, L. H. Liebeler, W. M. Stranger, John mooney and J.F. Schneider. Mr. Pinkerton of Petersburg and Mr. and Mrs. James Pinkerton of Wales were among those who attended the rites.
     Hannah M., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Thomson was born July 13, 1863 at Hemingford, Que. As a girl, she came in february 1881 to Fargo to live with a married sister. In May of the same year the family moved to Cooperstown and she lived there until her marriage May 22, 1886 to Allan Pinkerton. The young couple continued to live at Cooperstown until the fall of 1887, when they came to Langdon on a construction train, Mr. Pinkerton coming as a carpenter to be employed in the construction of the St. Anthony and Dakota elevator. He later worked on the Columbia hotel and within a few months he waas named chief of police for Langdon, the city having recently become organized. In the fall of 1888 he was appointed deputy sheriff and after that was elected sheriff and others as register of deeds.
     The Pinkerton home was one of the earliest in Langdon and was always a haven for those who needed help and comfort. Mrs. pinkerton is remembered as a devout christian and helpful friend by those loved her during the years she was here. She was a member of the Baptist church and after the cyclone of 1909 destroyed the church ediface she became affiliated with the Presbyterian church. She was a faithful worker in various organizations of the churches which she attended. She was also a member of Lebanon Chapter 37, O.E.S.
     Mr. and Mrs. Pinkerton moved in 1923 to a farm near Dresden and in 1927 to a farm west of Wales. In the fall of 1933 the moved to Grand Forks and last year to the farm near Petersburg, where they lived at the time of her death.
     mr. Pinkerton survives with and adopted daughter, mrs. bernie Waldron of Minneapolis. A brother J. M. Thomson of Bront, Que and two half sisters, Mrs. Herbert Strong of Toronto and Mrs. Philemon Wright of Montreal, survive.
