Source: Glenboro Gazette, December 29, 1910 They were married on December 20, 1910 JACKSON-ELLWOOD "An interesting matrimonial event took place yesterday (Wednesday) at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Jackson, when their daughter Lilian (sic) was joined in the bonds of wedlock to George W. Ellwood, of Portage la Prairie,
by the Rev. J.K. Clark, in the presence of a few intimate friends. The happy couple, unattended, entered the drawing room beneath a decorated arch, to the strains of the Wedding March, played by Miss Maud Christie. The bride was handsomely dressed in ivory satin trimmed with silver and pearls. After the ceremony the guests sat down to a very dainty dinner prepared by the bride's mother. The groom's gift to the bride was an amethyst pendant, and numerous other handsome and costly presents showed the esteem in which the young people are held. The bride's travelling costume was heliotrope broadcloth trimmed with black military braid, with picture hat. The couple
left on the evening train for Portage la Prairie, where they will reside."

resided in Portage for many years. By trade he was a carpenter and served actively in this trade for over 45 years. Retiring in January, 1968, he and his (second) wife also successfully operated Ellwood's Grocery Store in Portage (a mom and pop operation in the front of their home in a residential neighborhood -- like an early 7-11,
open every day, even Xmas, and I remember going there on a Xmas day). Mr. Ellwood was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Portage, and a member of the Canadian Order of Forresters. Surviving besides his wife Margaret is one daughter: Mrs. G. (Gail) Black of San Diego, Calif., and two grandchildren. Funeral in Portage, burial in Glenboro."

"The community mourns the death of Lillian Ellwood, beloved wife of George Ellwood, who passed away at her home in town early Saturday morning in her 47th year, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Ellwood was born at Millford and came to Glenboro with her parents in 1891. She received her education here and was married to George Ellwood in 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood then went to Portage la Prairie, where they resided until the fall of 1916 when they returned to Glenboro. Mrs. Ellwood was for some time on the staff of the local telephone exchange. Bright, happy and cheerful, she always had a smile and a pleasant word for everyone she met, and her untimely death came as a shock to many who had not realized she was so ill. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. M.J. Jackson, two brothers and three sisters: Bruce of Los Angeles, Cal; Gordon, Mrs. W. Gunn and Mrs. W. Wilton of Glenboro; Mrs. E. Johnston, of Vancouver, BC. Funeral held from United Church to Glenboro Cemetery. Pallbearers Dr. R. Hurton, H.E. Trimble, W. H. Carrothers, H. Thornborough, Jas. Jeffries and Geo. Russell."
