3. From an article written for a "A Tribute to the bygone communities of Saltburn, East Gap, SOuth Dean and Sanctuary and Hamlet" and from the section "Homesteaders of Saltburn" published in 1970 by the Elrose Review.
"Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Brownlie were born in Coatbridge, Scotland; they came to Kirkella, Manitoba, in 1905. Later they moved to Rosetown, where they Operated the first cafe there, known as Brownlie White Lunch.
In 1912 they filed on the SW quarter of 27-23-16 and Mr. Brownlie's sister and three eldest children spent several weeks there each summer. This was part of the proving up process. Mr. and Mrs. Wm Lindsay were their nearest neighbors and supplied the family with a daily ration of fresh milk. In 1915 the family moved down to the farm. The only means of transportation being a democrat pulled by one very white horse called Ruby. Later this was to cause many heated discussions among the young fry, you just didn't call a white horse Ruby. Mr. Brownllie served on the first school board. Having been in poor health when he took the homestead, he passed away in 1919, leaving his wife Mary and their eight children:

Margaret - former Mrs. Percy Hogue, residing in Elrose, Sask. Now Mrs. Ross Barge, residing in Vancouver, B.C.

Florence - Mrs. Alex McConnell, Dinsmore, Sask.
Crawford - deceased 1930
George - farming in the Coteau View district.
Winnifred - Mrs. John Thexton, Quesnel, B.C.
Lorraine - Mrs. Robert McConnell, Coteau View district.
Mrs. Brownlie moved to Elkhorn, Manitoba, in 1923 and passed away in 1926."
