Individual Note: 1. Notes from Doreen Graham: Annie Elizabeth Pinkerton married Ingvald Bernhard Buan on 11 Dec 1918 in Ceylon Saskatchewan Canada. Ingvald Bernhard buan was born on 14 May 1891in Round Prairie Minnesota USA. He died on 18 Aug 1976 in Reston Manitoba Canada. He was buried on 21 aug 1976 in Holmfield Manitoba Canada. His father passed away on 1 Sept 1896. He lived around Round prairie until 1906 when he decided to go to Canada where some friends had gone in search of new
lands to homestead. He worked for friends and other farmers. Then he decided to go back to Round Prairie after spending the winter in Hardy Saskatchewan Canada. After he returned to his home in the States he didn't like it so in 1908 he again came back to Hardy Saskatchewan and filed on a homestead near Hardy which had been filed on by someone else and they gave up and left. The price of a homestead was $10.00. One was to build a house worth $300.00 and live on the land for at least six months of every year for 3 years. Afterwards you could get what was called a pre-emption for $3.00 an acre. I.B. Buan filed on the N. 1/2-14-6-21 which was a 1/4 mile from Hardy. He wasn't there too long when he decided that he would go back to his home in the USA. He didn't tell anyone if he was coming back or not. When he again decided to return to Saskatchewan, someone else filed on his place and he had to find another place to homestead. He then filed on the S.E. 1/2-18-5-21, with pre-emption on the N.E.1/2-18-5-21. Later on his sister and his mother came to live in Canada. In 1918 I.B. Buan married Annie Elizabeth Pinkerton who was from Holmfield Manitoba but was living at her brothers farm and doing his housekeeping for him. His younger sister married Ernie Harrison who was also homesteading near him. His mother passed away on the 24th of April in 1922 and was buried at Ceylon, Saskatchewan. Bernhard and Annie had a daughter born on the homestead 7 Sept 1919, Helen. A son, Fred was born 19 Feb. 1921 but passed away the same day. Another son was born 6 Mar 1922, Thomas David. Bernhard left the farm in May 1923 and went to his wife's parents at Holmfield, manitoba. A son, Edgar, was born there on the 23 may 1923. A daughter, Eunice, was also born there 18 Jan 1925. During the winters of 1923-24-25 Bernhard worked in the bush cutting pulp wood near Rainy River, Ont. One summer he took a mechanic's course in Winnipeg but due to ill health he never finished the course.
Bernhard Buan got work with a blacksmith in Clearwater, Man. He worked for a while and then he heard of a blacksmith shop in Neelin, Man. which he took. He worked there until one morning the shop caught fire, while he was back at the house having breakfast, after having spent some time there in the morning. 2 March 1928. In the early morning of 9 July 1933 Charles Buan who was born 12 March 1927 in Neelin Man. got up to make breakfast and let the oil stove which over heated causing the house to catch on fire. On 9 July 1933 in Purves Manitoba the house burned down and the two brothers died in the fire, David Thomas Buan and Charles Reginald Buan. They are buried in the Holmfield Cemetery. In 1954 Bernhard moved to Reston Manitoba where Annie passed away on 13 June 1959 and Bernhard Buan passed away 18 Aug
1976.
