1. Obituary: Portage Graphic, Jan. 17, 1994 NAOMI ELLWOOD On Friday, January 14, 1994, at the Lions' Prairie Manor, Mrs. Naomi Ellwood, late of the Lions Manor, passed away at the age of 100 years. Mrs. Newman came to Portage over sixty years ago and worked at the Women's Jail for several years. She spent most of her life in her home as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed. Predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Leslie Newman, second husband, Hazel El;lwood, son-in-law Mac Cheater, grandson Gary Cheater; two brothers William and Archie Jamieson. Mrs. Ellwood is survived by one daughter, Norma Cheater, of Winnipeg, one son, William (Joan) Newman of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Leslie (Gerry) Bachynski of Winnipeg, Bill (Angie) Newman of Bedminister, NJ, Bryan (Sandy) Newman of Pittsburgh, three great grandchildren, Caley, Will and Hannah, and several nieces and nephews. Service Portage Funeral Chapel, Jan. 18, 1994, Rev. Sid Walmsley, burial (ashes) Hillside Cemetery, Portage."
