Individual Note: 1. Obituary MINNIE SUSANNA BARGE APRIL 28, 1911 DECEMBER 9, 2008 It is with great sadness that Wylma Orosz, Brian Barge and their families announce the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother and great grandmother on December 9, 2008 at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon. She joins her husband, Stan; parents, Minnie and William Beckler; sisters, Myrtle,
Irene, Edith; son-in-law, Andy Orosz; and all of her Barge inlaws. Mom was born in a sod house near Lucky Lake, attended rural schools in the area and received her high school education at Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon. After graduating from Normal School in 1929, she returned to Lucky Lake to embark on her lifelong love of teaching. It was there that she connected with her future husband Stanley Barge, the neighbour boy, and was married on October 22, 1936. They continued to live and farm in the Lucky Lake area, where mom taught as time and vacancies became available, and then retired to Saskatoon in 1976. Minnie Barge was a lady of generosity, compassion and love. She loved her years of teaching and her students loved her. Over the years, countless students who were the benefactors of her teaching gifts visited her to express their thanks. She was a patient person, never judged others, and was always there to help. An avid reader who especially enjoyed good books and poetry, she could recite numerous poems at a moment's notice. Mom always said that she found many good friends in her books. She also loved to write, wrote letters to stay connected, and used her talents to write her own family's history. As well as the usual woman's work on
the farm of gardening, canning, baking, cooking, etc., mom also found time to do a variety of needlework knitting, sewing, quilting, embroidery, crocheting and any new craft which became popular. Somehow, she also found time to volunteer in many church and community activities. Mom was very dedicated to her family. She delighted in the successes of her children and grandchildren, whether they were skating medals, hockey trophies, Girl Guide badges or university degrees. She was always interested in what everyone was doing. For all of us, she was a true example of what being positive meant. Mom could always find the best in even the bleakest situations. She was a wonderful friend and accepted others unconditionally. Even when her physical health began to fail, she maintained a positive outlook and was determined to make every day the very best possible. She always said that the best gift that she could give to her children was roots and wings. She certainly accomplished this and we are most grateful. Mom will be greatly missed by her daughter, Wylma Orosz; son, Brian (Margaret) and grandchildren, Patti Szanto (Les), Christina (Ken) Gibbs and children Haley and Nolan, Blake Barge (Barb) and children Jayden and Jordan, Mark Barge (Sandra); and her many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her many, many friends. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Oliver Lodge for your love, care and compassion shown to mom and our family. Your competence and sincerity are especially appreciated. A Celebration of mom's life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK.
