John Edward Robinson World War One Story!

John was born May 2, 1897 in London, England, the son of Thomas John David and Louisa Jane (nee Harris) Robinson.

In 1911 John moved with his parents to La Riviere, Manatoba, Canada.

John joined the 184th Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force at La Riviere on March 13, 1916. Below are his Attestation Papers which show his service # was 874859.

John was to be sent to the France Theater and left for England in 1916 arriving on November 11, 1916 on board the Empress of Britain. He was taken on strength November 12, 1916 at Schorncliffe.

John went to France on April 18, 1917 with 107th Brigade. On March 10, 1918 this unit became known as 107th Pioneer Canadian Engineers.

From his service record there is no indication John was ever wounded and he was taken off strength of the 107th in the Field on May 30, 1918 an taken on strenth of 2nd Battalion on July 2, 1918. on March 28, 1919 he was taken off strength and was discharged to Canada on April 26, 1919 having attained the rank of Lance Corporal.

Subsequently on November 18, 1921 he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal with his current address shown as Quill Lake, Saskatchewan.

Later John married Irene Martha McBride on October 4, 1924 at Schreiber, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

John died in 1971 at Burlington, Halton Regional Municipality, Ontario, Canada where he is buried with his wife and Father.
